Paul Stuart | Fashion Trends Men
Paul Stuart is likely to be an unfamiliar term to the majority of readers but the select few that knows this brand will no doubt have a high opinion on the brand. Why is this brand relevant today and why are we profiling them? Simply because as an educated shopper / fashion follower, it makes sense to do so. The brand has a rich heritage that a select few and hopefully YOU too will appreciate. Especially in light of the recent success of the Phineas Cole line, a product line that was introduced in 2007 and the first roll-out in 70 years! We will speak more on the Phineas Cole line as well.
First, a primer on this classic American brand. The branded was founded in 1938 and have few locations (New York, Chicago, Seoul, South Korea, and various parts of Japan). The flagship store is the original New York Store (Madison & 45th) and is by far their largest store. The company is known for its suits and accessories with common comparison to being a higher-end, more intimate version of Brooks Brother. Brook Brothers is actually next to the flagship store in New York. Unquestionably, the brand is know for its unique take on the classic Anglo-American style. The optimal word here is classic, sophistication, luxury. Quality and intimacy also comes to mind.
Simply put, the intimate part cannot be stressed enough. Things like shoes repair are taken with the utmost professionalism and courtesy. This alone warrants receiving a high mark for. Sizing is also a competitive advantage. Most competitors have regular length and longs. This brand has suits in medium long. It goes without saying that quality of the suit is top-notch. And yes, you will have to pay up for it. Suits are made by Samuelsohn; astute readers will readily known that they make good suits. If you’re a big fan of Simon Doonan or Farnsowrth, this suits will be for you.
The Paul Stuart brand is known for classic sophistication. However, its latest line is known for taking a more “modern” take on the suit. The Phinease Cole line is simply superb. If you’re looking for a trimmer look to impress, then its worth doing some research on the line. If you’re looking for a reinvented 1920’s and 30’s suit, this line will fit the bill. Make sure to check out the one-button peak lapel Phillip model. This sleek style is a nice luxury to have. The line strongest seasons are fall and winter for this line. But its spring and summer collection over the last two years have made significant strides. Indeed the line itself is being more associated with bold but sophisticated business wear. And to no one surprises, its latest spring and summer has put emphasis on bold color while retaining the classic style. The only issue with the line is the limited availability given how few stores there are. But if you happen to live the big metro areas (New York, Chicago), considered yourself lucky. The price tag is unquestionably at the top range. Like the old saying: you have to pay up to get quality.
Accessories is one of their hall-mark. Color variation is one of the best we have seen. Moreover, we would go as far as to say that their tie selection is top five in New York City. And that’s saying a lot. Ties comes in many pattern but true to their heritage, it remains bold with an air of sophistication that few brands can match. The same could be said for the quintessential Pocket Square. We essentially love the Silk Color Blue Square. In terms of pricing, we have found their leather wallet to be a great bargain. The Leather Trifold Wallet retails under $200. The quality is as good as a signature Cartier Men’s wallet that goes for twice the amount. The sunglasses selection has underwhelming. We would avoid the sunglasses until their refresh the line. It’s hard to justify almost $500 for the Retro Aviator and Wayfarer Sunglasses. Lastly a word of watch. We would rate their watch as above average with huge potential. The Round Signature Watch has a unique look that we rank highly. Ditto for some but not all Rectangular Signature Watch. Though, the Bracelet Watch leaves much for improvement.
